Pearl River Delta Region

This report covers south China; a very diverse region consisting of the wealthy urban Pearl River Delta (the PRD) region, “China’s Hawaii” (Hainan Island), the poorer mountainous regions surrounding the delta, and the economical and geographically  diverse province of Guangxi that shares a border with Vietnam and connected via the Guangxi-Hanoi railway.

In fact, Vietnamese is a hybrid language meaning that over the years it has adapted Chinese into its language and many French terms which combined makes up today’s Vietnamese language. In addition, the karst landscapes of Guilin (land) in Guangxi and in Hai Phong (sea) in Vietnam share the same look and historical events that created them.

The entire regions population is young and diverse, and where areas such as the PRD have attracted migrants from all over China making Guangdong alone the most populace province in China with nearly 130 million people of which half are 15-44 years old.

This report delves into the regions core coastal regions including the PRD, Hong Kong and Macau; Beihai, the Guangdong peninsula, and Hainan that make up most of the South China Sea along with northern Vietnam that also borders this region. It also looks in to the mountainous regions of Guangdong which has a mass loss of population, and the province of Guangxi and the opportunities presenting themselves there.

In here we find that certain cities have all grown into each other and over the next few years will create some of the most dynamic cities in the world including Shenzhen-Hong Kong megapolis, the Guangzhou-Foshan megapolis, the Zhuhai-Macau city and how the factories of Dongguan and Zhongshan and even Zhaoqing and Huizhou feed into these cities.
