Whereas northwest China has the lowest population density in China, the great Shanghai region has the highest. This area is similar in size with the Netherlands yet has almost 4x its population. With the high-speed rail network, one can live almost anywhere in this region and be in the heart of Shanghai in less than an hour.
This area encompasses Lake Tai and its surrounding prefectures, the Yangtze River Delta, and the East China Sea. Its GDP and per capita GDP makes it one of the wealthiest parts of China from Shanghai, Suzhou, and Wuxi even down to the sub-cities of Jiangyin, Kunshan, and Changshu. It is no wonder why almost every major retailer in the world has multiple locations throughout this region.
At its heart, Shanghai is the tertiary (or services) industries center of the economy, and its surrounding areas are its major industrial and manufacturing hubs. Then in the triangular corners of Nantong, Huzhou, and Jiaxing, the region still has agricultural and ocean foods industries that help to support the entire region.
This area also has many foreigners living there with the highest numbers being Japanese, Americans, and Koreans with a wide number of Taiwanese, French, and Dutch citizens along with others from around the world making places here especially Shanghai very cosmopolitan.
In this report, we look at full data on every city, district, and county making up this region with full demographic, economic, retail, and wellness profiles along with a retailer index showing the total outlets of a-number-of foreign retail brands both throughout the country and the percent of stores they have from that total in this region alone.
Our reports include the past 10 years of data at purchase. We typically have new reports ready after the first quarter of the year. For the new reports, we initially usually offer them at a discounted rate. Please reach out to our team if you have any questions.
