This report covers an area that could be called a country within a country. It also has a rural population of over 50 million making this region of China a microcosm of the country-as-a-whole.

It has the highest concentartin of Universities in Asia and two global top 20 university’s being Tsinghua and Peking University. It is the center of scientific region not only in China, but, if it were a country one of the top 5 globally. It has 45 sub-cities, districts and counties that have over 30% of their populations with at least a college education, has very strong per capita retail sales and is a place where many high-end and luxury goods are sold.

However, it has a problem. As this is coal country and China still derives 60% of its energy from burning coal, a-number-of the cities in this region have poor air quality in which the government is working to rectify by gradually switching over to natural gas, dictating the percent of cars allowed to be sold each that must be electric, and even in its biggest cities the last number of your license plate disctates which days you can drive your vehicle. It should go without saying that the whole realm of environmental services and restoration has a vast amount of opportunities here and has government backing and support for this.
