National Population Analysis

In this report we look at the demographics of all parts of China from each prefecture and down to their cities, counties, and districts that make up each area. Firstly, we provide you with a population and migrant movement overview that shows all the areas throughout China that people are moving to and where they’re moving away from and the density of the population in every part.

Secondarily, we look-into detail the age and sex categories where you will see how vastly different China where some places have older and aging populations, and others are filled with kids aged 0-14. We also look at the male-female divide, and it’s quite interesting to see where the female percentage is higher than the male, and other areas where the male population is unproportionally high.

Next, we look at the rural and urban resident divide and this is very telling on what areas are more agricultural and less developed and the areas that are primarily urban. Let’s look at a large city such as Shijiazhuang as an example. It has a total population of 11.2 million people of which 70% are urban. However, when you break it down into its parts, Shijiazhuang city proper is 99% urban, its suburbs 65%, it’s sub-cities 56% and its area counties just 40%. So, what is the actual market of Shijiazhuang?

Finally, we have conducted a deep dive analysis on educational attainment. One will find that certain district within a city are highly educated and others not so much which is also the case in sub-cities and counties throughout the country. Looking back at Shijiazhuang, one will find that the city proper has almost a 40% college educated rate yet all the counties surrounding it a-bit lower than 8%.
